Note: Published outside the British Isles If you asked anyone in his small Vermont town, they'd tell you the facts: James Liddell, star athlete, decent student and sort-of boyfriend to cute, peppy Theresa, is a happy, funny, carefree guy. But whenever James sits down at his desk to write, he tells a different story. As he fills his drawers with letters to the people in his world - letters he never intends to send - he spills the truth: he's trying hard, but he just isn't into Theresa. It's his friend, a boy, who lingers in his thoughts. James's secret letters are his safe space - but his truth can't stay hidden for long. Will he come clean to his parents, his teammates and himself, or is he destined to live a life of fiction? Teenagers

Note: When Ollie meets Will over the summer break, he thinks he's found his Happily Ever After. But once summer's ended, Will stops texting him back, and Ollie finds himself short of his fairy-tale ending. A family emergency sees Ollie uprooted and enrolled at a new school across the country - Will's school - and Ollie finds that the sweet, affectionate and comfortably queer guy he knew from summer isn't the same one attending Collinswood High. This Will is a class clown, a basketball jock and, well, a bit of a jerk. Ollie isn't going to pine after a guy who isn't ready for a relationship. But as school life repeatedly throws them together, from music class to the lunch table, Ollie finds his resolve weakening. With the noisy drama of their friends as the backdrop - from ambitious Juliette and frosty Lara, to big-hearted Darnell and king-jock Matt - Ollie has a decision to make. Teenagers

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. The characters were amazing and very believable. David wants to be a girl and struggles with school, friends and his parents as he tries to conform to being a boy but he know this isn’t what he wants to be. He is bullied at school and called a freak, he has two friends who know the truth and stand by him throughout the book. Leo joins the school in Year 11 and comes from a totally different background to David where money is thin on the ground and his home life is challenging with a father who has walked out on him years ago and a mother who doesn’t give him much emotional support. David tries to befriend Leo but is rejected, however, as times goes on Leo ends up sticking up for David and a relationship is formed. The author captures feelings of isolation and loneliness within David has he tries to understand his gender identity. David is trying on women’s clothes and it just isn’t working, he looks in the mirror and realises that he is lon

Note: For Angel Ahmadi, life is only about one thing: The Ark - a pop-rock trio of teenage boys who are currently taking the world by storm. Being part of The Ark's fandom has given her everything - her friendships, her dreams, her place in the world. Jimmy Kaga-Ricci owes everything to The Ark too. He's their frontman - and playing in a band is all he's ever dreamed of doing. It's just a shame that recently everything in his life seems to have turned into a bit of a nightmare. Because that's the problem with dreaming - eventually, inevitably, real life arrives with a wake-up call. And when Angel and Jimmy are unexpectedly thrust together, they will discover just how strange and surprising facing up to reality can be. Teenagers
394 pages ; 20 cm (pbk)

I personally hate fandom culture and think it can easily become super toxic. So I assumed I'd hate this book, however that was not the case. I fell in love with this book and its characters, and being honest it was through their self hatred that I saw myself. I related so much, and then with the character Jimmy's anxiety. This book just handled mental health, I cannot say well because neither of the characters were getting treated, but it was very authentic! As much as this book is about fandom culture, and fame, its just so much more. I would highly recommend this!

Note: A boy comes to terms with his identity as a mixed-race gay teen - then at university he finds his wings as a drag artist, The Black Flamingo. 'I masquerade in makeup and feathers and I am applauded'. Teenagers

This novel in verse was an absolute joy to read! Telling the coming of age story of Michael, a mixed-race gay guy who makes his way in the word by first navigating his own identity and exploring all aspects of his individuality. We follow Michael's journey of self discovery from childhood to adulthood as he deals with incidents of racism and homophobia in amongst all the good stuff of life, that all inform the development of his onstage drag persona The Black Flamingo! Loved it - would highly recommend.
